Tensions between Paris Hilton and Shanna Moakler reached a boiling point Wednesday night at Los Angeles hot spot Hyde Lounge, resulting in both women filing police reports. Both Hilton and Moakler accuse the other of battery in separate complaints filed at the Hollywood division of the Los Angeles Police Department, an LAPD spokesperson said on Wednesday. Details of the allegations were not disclosed.
One eyewitness says that Hilton was at Hyde with exes Paris Latsis and Stavros Niarchos while Moakler was at the bar with Dancing with the Stars star Cheryl Burke.
At around 1:30 a.m., the clubgoer says, “You could hear a collective gasp around the place – Stavros had an empty cocktail glass in his hand and Shanna was standing there wet.”
According to the witness, Moakler got napkins from the bartender to dry off, then left with Burke and came back 10 minutes later with police, who walked through the club with her, but didn’t take any action.
Moakler’s publicist, Susan Madore, said Moakler and Hilton exchanged words, and Niarchos pushed Moakler down some stairs, bent her wrist back and poured a drink over her head.
“She was not drunk,” Madore said. “To my understanding there was no fight, there was an exchange of words that lasted 12 seconds.”
Hilton’s rep, Elliot Mintz, says Moakler struck Hilton: “(Paris) said she was having a conversation with Stavros and the lady came out of nowhere shouting obscenities and struck her on the side of her face by her jaw and then continued to shout at her.”
Mintz would not comment on the allegations against Niarchos. A rep for Niarchos could not be reached.
Tensions between Hilton and Moakler began when Hilton was spotted in a lip-lock with Moakler’s estranged husband, Travis Barker, at a New York club last month.
At the time, Moakler said she felt betrayed, but added, “In order to maintain a positive atmosphere for my children I’ve decided not to exacerbate the situation by commenting on each new aspect of Travis Barker’s personal life.”
In Las Vegas for a party on Sept. 30, Moakler said of her ex and Hilton, “I wish the happiest for both of them. I’m closing the door and moving forward. I’m a mom. I’ve got three kids. I’m a role model.”
Barker, who starred in the MTV reality show Meet the Barkers with Moakler filed for divorce from his wife on Aug. 8.
Madonna Adopts Malawi Boy
A few weeks after officially adopting Africa as a cause, Madonna has adopted an African child, a boy from Malawi. She already has two children Rocco, 5 and Lourdes, 9
Twelve boys were hand picked to her specifications before she arrived in Malawi. She chose a year old orphan boy, she had originally specified a girl, but changed her mind at the last moment.
She is in Africa to fund the Raising Malawi centre to feed and educate Aids orphans. Malawi has been very hard hit by the loss of its population to Aids.
As part of their studies, the orphans will study “Spirituality for Kids”, which is linked to the Kabbalah school of mysticism,a cult which Madoona follows.
Many of Malawi’s family groups are headed by children who have lost parents to Aids and raise their siblings singlehandedly. The people live in mud huts and they have no electricity.
Madonna plans to spend at least $3m (£1.6m) on programmes to alleviate poverty in Malawi and another $1m to raise the profile of children in the country. The population is only thirteen million people, but over a million children have lost one parent to Aids.
The visit to Malawi is her first to Africa. She attributes her interest in helping the continent to a “better perspective” on life derived from Kabbalah.
“One of the main precepts of Kabbalah is that we’re put on this earth to help people,” Madonna told Time magazine when she revealed her plans in August.
